Mattias Tromp

Q: "What is your favorite part about the horse world?"

Mattias: "My favorite part about the horse world is first and foremost working with my horses. Beyond that, the opportunity to travel as much as I do and have the chance to meet so many people from different parts of the world is pretty neat.

Q: "If you had to be a professional athlete in another sport what would it be and why?"

Mattias: "I think I would choose to be a Formula 1 driver. That sport looks like PURE adrenaline. I mean, who doesn’t want to drive cool cars and go fast?? Also, once you are done as a driver, there seem to be many different avenues to continue and redirect your career within the sport.

Q: "What is your favorite horse show of all time?"

Mattias: "Old Salem because it’s right in my back yard and always such a beautifully produced event. It also happens to be where I won my first FEI event.

Q: "If you could win any Grand Prix in the world which one would you win? "

Mattias: "Aachen because it is simply the biggest and most important Grand Prix in the world. Period. Hands down. ‘Nuff said.

Q: "How do you stay in shape for the show ring?"

Mattias: "Staying in shape for the show ring can be an uphill battle. During the winter when I’m based in Wellington and am not traveling very much, I like to join a gym that involves HIIT training, such as kick boxing. Exercising has to be a bit interactive for me to stick with it though because, to be honest, it’s really not my favorite.

Q: "If you had to have a regular person job what would you do?"

Mattias: "Marketing and advertising. It's a competitive business which makes it more exciting. I think it would also be really cool to work on some of the creative projects that are seen by the masses. Think Super Bowl commercials.”

Q: "How do you unwind and reset after a bad week?"

Mattias: "If you want to compete, you are going to have bad weeks. Accept them before they happen, learn from them when they do, and move on. I'm also a movie geek so going to a theater helps too.”

Q: "If you could pick a walk up song to play as you enter the GP ring, which song would it be?"

Mattias: "Rocky Theme Song”

Q: "What is a quote that you live by and why?"

Mattias: " 'You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them.'- Michael Jordan

It's nearly impossible to accomplish something if you don't believe that you can. Belief before accomplish.”

Q: "Describe yourself in three words."

Mattias: "Resilient, Empathetic, Dork”
